National accolades for Indianapolis’ vibrant Downtown have been pouring in lately, and we’re proud that others are acknowledging what we have known for so long—Downtown Indianapolis is a great place to visit AND live! The hot food scene and brilliant array of restaurants. The eclectic homes. The walkability and shopping. The parks, theaters, museums and libraries. The concerts and professional sports. Living Downtown truly offers a great lifestyle with so much to see and do!
Officially, Downtown Indianapolis is a mile square, bordered by North St., East St., South St. and West St. Within this square, you’ll find urban condos and townhouses mixed in with high rises, office buildings and other commercial buildings. Neighborhoods that are more residential in nature are found just beyond the square in popular neighborhoods like Fletcher Place, Fountain Square, the Old Northside, Lockerbie Square, Chatham Arch, St. Joseph and Holy Cross. See the full list of Downtown neighborhoods.
Tiny studio-size condos can be found starting around $150,000 and price points rise with location, building amenities, and size, up into the millions of dollars. The home choices are diverse—from colorful Victorian-era cottages and mansions, restored vintage apartment buildings, infill structures that blend with the homes of historic neighborhoods, new-construction condo buildings and converted warehouses. Truly there is something to suit every taste—from that of Millennials to downsizing Baby Boomers. Choosing to purchase a home Downtown is a great investment too. Thanks to Indianapolis Downtown's development and improvements, the median home price has grown to $309,400 (as of 2017), a 20 percent increase since 2012.
