Kennedy King Homes for Sale - Downtown Indianapolis

Located north of downtown Indy, this up-and-coming urban neighborhood is named after two icons of the civil rights era and commemorates a footnote in U.S. history. On April 4, 1968, after learning of Martin Luther King’s assassination, presidential candidate Robert Kennedy delivered an emotional, unplanned speech at a campaign rally within the neighborhood.

Years later, the Kennedy King Memorial was dedicated on that spot Kennedy spoke so eloquently and calmed the crowd of shocked Americans. The memorial is a powerful two-piece structure depicting Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy reaching out to one another. The memorial extends across a walkway, forcing pedestrians to walk in between the two extended activists, symbolizing the intermediary role Indianapolis served that fateful day.

This feeling of connection and community are at the heart of this historic neighborhood. The neighborhood boasts its own non-profit, a park surrounding the Kennedy King memorial, and a community proud of its history and contribution to the civil rights movement.
